The League of Legends World Championship is approaching, and so is the 7.18 Worlds patch, the update that will cement the playfield for the entirety of the event. And although League's newest champion, Ornn, will release a couple patches behind 7.18, Riot revealed today that he won't be playable at Worlds.
"It's an issue we went back and forth on a lot ourselves," Riot Meddler shared in the boards, "our conclusion at the end though was that he shouldn't be available. His release is only a couple of patches before the Worlds patch (7.18) and he's got a lot of distinctive stuff on his kit that could take a bit longer than usual to assess the impact of, upgraded items for his allies especially."
It's Ornn's Master Craftsman passive that allows him to upgrade the stats on certain items for his team -- only one upgrade per player, and only eight possible upgrades (shown below).
Ornn also adds a new ailment to the game: Brittle. A Brittle enemy suffers from bonus damage and CC duration when hit by immobilizing effects. On top of that, Ornn's E can destroy player-created terrain. Overall, it's a lot of new effects and abilities that could send waves through competitive play.
"We're really excited to see him in pro play," Meddler added, "[we] want to make sure we've had time to do any polish that's needed though."
Meddler's post also outlines a few champion changes you should expect before and after Worlds, including a Nautilus buff and some Pantheon changes. You can check out the full post over here.
