"He's the best cat for me" - OW Caster Jamerson on home and staying grounded.

By Josh Lee
Oct 12, 2017
OW caster, James "Jamerson" Lee, shares about his pet cat, his girlfriend, and staying grounded.

You tweet about missing your cat a lot. Why is your cat the best cat in the entire world?

I don't know if he's the best cat in the whole wide world but he's the best cat for me.

He's the best cat for me.

I've never had a pet growing up, so I never really understood that bond between you know a pet and their owner. But this is my girlfriend's pet, actually. This is my girlfriend's cat.

I used to call him the "trash cat" because she brought him in from the streets and she used let him out. But, I didn't know how to be around pets. But, he grew on me.

And it wasn't until earlier this year he got drastically sick. We took him over to the emergency vet, and the doctor actually, you know, they called us over the phone and wanted to have a conversation with us and that's kind of not what you want to hear.

"We need to have a conversation with you. We need to talk options." That is not what you want to hear.

And it was at that moment I was heartbroken. I was feeling all the things I thought were irrational for pet owners to have towards their pets. And it stuck. It stuck. And since then is just I understand that now he is family you know and I would miss him terribly if he were to pass.

So, it's been great having that kind of emotional connection, the emotional tie something to bind me to home other than my girlfriend and just being reminded that, “Hey, yes. You do have some sort of like emotional connection to the rest of the world even though you're just living day to day just doing work.”

How has your girlfriend been supporting you?

Oh she's been immensely supportive.

So for everyone who, I guess, enjoys how I dress for broadcast, you can thank her. It's all been her, and Kohls by the way. So if you guys are looking to sponsor any esports personalities, this guy right here!

Yeah. She's been super supportive. She goes with me, she takes me shopping. She's basically my stylist. She keeps up the home you know we live together we've been living together for like two three years now. She maintains the home and she's the constant reminder that I do have stability in my life. I can come back. My girlfriend's going to be there, my apartment is going to be there.

And yeah she's just always been there.

At what moment did you say, “I’ve made it. I’m a caster now!”

I'm not there yet.

I don't think I'm at that moment. A lot of people will say oh you're just being humble. I'm really not. There are so many more mountains to climb. I know that I have a lot of work to do when everything slows down for me in particular for my schedule. You know I want to start working with a vocal coach.

I want to sit down more with Monte and DoA about learning this craft and just strive to be up to, well, the level of Monte, DoA, Uber, and X.

It feels close. Everything feels attainable but I don't think I'm quite at that level yet. You know my ultimate goal is to be casting you know for BlizzCon. From day one, the get go, it was to cast at BlizzCon, so maybe if I get to cast at BlizzCon that would be the moment where I say I've made it.

But even here being in the Blizzard Arena, being here for the opening for it... it just doesn't feel quite right yet.
